3rd YEAR STUDIO PROJECTS.

Three design projects in two semesters.
Student Housing on the Blue Line Charlotte, NC

During the second semester I explored the culture of an art district near center city Charlotte. The booming culture and anticipation for the lightrail blue line extentsion made this project standout. This student housing project would allow new students to live in a culturally significant area in Charlotte while also commuting to and from school and or work. By preserving significant cultural buildings I developed my project along the constraints of two streets as well as the old industrial rail line. In this mid-rise project students will experience the best of both worlds.

Water Conservation Research and Learning Center

As a secondary and final project for the first semester, I developed the program from the river probe project (below) into a place where all the data could be analyzed. Placed in Shiprock, NM this raised building sits on stilts in the flood plane of the San Juan river. The project gives an opportunity for researchers to study the data from the river probes while also allowing for conferences, school exhibitions, and temporary living for the staff.  The spine of the project houses all the testing instrumentation and is also the main form of circulation throughout the project.

River Probe Design Charette

Placed along the Colorado River multiple river probes are designed to test the water and monitor the surrounding landscape. Only occupied on rare occasion for repair and extensive testing, this landmark among the marshlands is a great place for the few fisherman and bird watchers against the stunning rocky mountain backdrop.
